My first encounter with tango was in 2004, when I attended a concert in Australia that was followed by an introductory course. After 1 ½ years of intensive training in Sydney I travelled to Buenos Aires to study the subject in more depth. Over the next 2 ½ years I divided my time between Buenos Aires and Basel, and concentrated on my development as a tango dancer.
From 2007 onwards I assisted Mario Ferraro and Özgür Demir with their tango tuition, and since 2009 I’ve been teaching with passion and commitment on my own account. In my lessons, I focus primarily on teaching a sound basic technique. This not only facilitates learning complex figures and tango elements, but also opens the door to improvised dancing to the music.
The pilates method is the ideal complement to tango training. I completed the “Polestar Pilates Mat” course in 2009, and have since begun teaching the method with myself.
My inspiration comes mainly from my annual trips to Buenos Aires, and from my current creative collaboration with Julio Mendez.
For me, tango is a manifestation of the music through the physical communication between dance partners. I place special emphasis on preserving the feeling and essence of tango and on personal expression.
During my tango career, I have mainly been influenced by the following teachers:
Carlos & Rosa Perez, Olga Besio, Roberto Leiva & Maricel Gomez, Gachi Fernandez, Daniel Nacucchio, Gustavo Naveira & Giselle Anne, Chicho Mariano Frumboli & Juana Sepulveda, Sebastian Arce & Mariana Montes, Julio Balmaceda & Corina de la Rosa, Alejandra Zavala, Claudia Caporaletti and Graciela González.
